miranda forrester is a painter currently based in brighton and studying fine art painting. her translucent and fluid use of oil paint creates a dialogue between the conventional medium and the queer and overt content. with a background in portraiture and life drawing, her work combines figuration and abstraction to construct a sensitive exploration of the bodies, activities and existence of queer women of colour.
her work concentrates on the demand for self-definition and representation, in addition to confronting the issues surrounding the portrayal of queer women and sexuality. her works seeks to celebrate the female gaze, and the relationship between self and the female figure. avoiding objectification and calling on autonomous ownership and the reclaiming of women’s bodies, her practise centres on a representation of the realities of the lives and relationships of women that is often ignored.
