kate shields is a multi-disciplinary artist, currently based in brighton and studying fine art.
with a background in life drawing and portraiture, her work is mostly focused on the figure, the body, and how it relates to gender, sexuality, as well as perceptions of beauty, the self and others.
kate exhibited in trace.'s inaugural show in January, 2017, entitled self-gratification. her work brings a distinctive and much-valued feminist perspective to the collective.
the female experience, particularly as this experience relates to the body, features heavily in her work, with traditional cosmetic and hygiene-related products making frequent appearances alongside bdsm tools and other dark imagery.
